Evolving Your Information Architecture-What? Why? How?:  Better use and component reengineering

While not in the typical parlance of 'business' users, information architectures (IA) models are increasingly recognized as practical, valuable artifacts.  All organizations have IAs.  The question is–how effectively are they used?  IAs provide an easy 'vocabulary' permitting better insight of information and processing challenges plaguing organizations. Confusingly, IAs are both the mapping and the implementation of that mapping between organizational strategy and operations.  Organizational strategy begets data strategy which begets needs to understand and reengineer specific IA components.  Implementation is the responsibility of data governance.  The workshop covers better understanding, use and evolution your organization's IA.  Incorporating IA drivers, a specified, repeatable process, organizational learning, and tangible results–IA efforts can result in organizational efficiencies and effectiveness improvements, increased dexterity, and lower risk and often, concrete ROI, positive cash flow and increased profit.  Other important related topics include:
  • Understanding data-centric development practices and architectural solutions
  • Important relationships to strategy and governance
  • Increasing revenue or decreasing costs does not have to be at odds with increasing functionality
  • Using existing legal and financial motivations to guide individual efforts
  • Employing architectural patterns and data profiling to jump-start efforts to surface, understand, and make use of discoverable architectural components

Human Factors in Data Governance

Most organizations recognize the importance of data and data governance.  However, many are failing in their efforts to become data driven. Increasing investment in technology has not addressed the problem. In fact, the increasing complexity has made matters worse.  In order to succeed, organizations must address the most difficult issue that is holding them back: cultural change and the human side of data governance. In this session, Ron Huizenga will discuss human factors as the major impediment to business adoption, as well as how to address it.
